Roundup: Clark County pair race to D-II All-America honors

Georgia Porter and Taylor Guenther achieved NCAA Division II All-America status at Saturday’s national championship meet in Joplin, Mo. Each Clark County products was her team’s leading finisher.

Porter, a Hockinson High School graduate and junior at Western State Colorado University, placed 15th with a time of 20 minutes, 57.3 seconds over the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) course. The Mountaineers placed fifth in the team race.

Guenther, a Prairie High School graduate and senior at Western Washington University, placed 26th in 21:09.4. The Vikings placed sixth in the team race, the program’s best finish since joining the NCAA in 1998. WWU was fourth at NAIA nationals in 1992.

“I am so proud of Taylor to end her cross country career as an All-American,” WWU coach Pee Wee Halsell told wwuvikings.com. “She was the rock of our program and worked so hard to get this point. There was a lot of work that went into this and nobody deserves or earned it more than Taylor.”

Soccer nationals

• The season ended for Arizona and senior defender Sheaffer Skadsen (Skyview High School) with a 3-0 loss at Stanford in the NCAA Division I Women’s College Cup round of 16. The Cardinal led 1-0 into the 77th minute before two late goals.

• Western Washington (21-1-1) advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals with a 3-1 home victory over Dallas Baptist. The Vikings roster includes senior goalkeeper Ashley Haden (Hockinson High School) and freshman defender Taylor Hallquist (Columbia River High School). The NCAA-II semifinals and final are Dec. 3 and 5 in Pensacola, Fla.

• The season ended for Carroll College and senior goalkeeper Jamie Carter (Camas High School) with a 3-0 loss to Spring Arbor University in Brighton, Mich.
