Three adults and a pet received temporary lodging after they were displaced by a fire in a detached garage in Washougal on Sunday night.

Crews from the Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to the blaze, reported just before 9 p.m. at 1950 N. Washougal River Road.

They found flames coming from the front door of a 400-square-foot garage, Battalion Chief Larry Larimer said.

Firefighters doused the blaze from the outside before doing overhaul, working to salvage the garage’s contents and put out hot spots, Larimer said.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross responded to assist the occupants, who were living in the garage, Red Cross spokeswoman Kim Upham said. The organization assisted three adults and a pet with temporary lodging and other basic needs and disaster recovery information.
