Second Step receives grant to help with affordable housing

Hough — Umpqua Bank Charitable Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to Second Step Housing for its Stepping up to Eliminate Poverty Program, which looks to help Second Step Housing residents gain opportunities at lasting success. Second Step develops, renovates and manages affordable housing, provides case management services and offers educational opportunities for families working toward self-sufficiency. The average income for a Second Step family is less than $13,000, and the organization sees a 95 percent success rate with residents moving from transitional programs to permanent unsupported housing, according to a release from Second Step.
