Familiar names top the leaderboards after the first day of the 4A and 3A district golf tournaments at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield.

Fort Vancouver junior Spencer Tibbits appears on his way to a third 3A district title after opening with a 2-under-par 70 for a five-shot lead.

Columbia River teammates Nick Ayres and Joe Beuselinck each shot 75s to tie for second heading into today’s final round.

Defending 4A district champ Ben Gruher, a junior at Union, also shot an opening-round 70 for the lead. But his pursuers aren’t far behind.

Skyview’s Justin Zilles is one shot back after shooting a 1-under 71, and Camas’ Brian Humphreys, the 2013 district champ, shot 73. Max Dobak of Union also had a 73.

The top six golfers in the 4A district will earn berths to the state tournament in May. The next nine placers will play a bi-district tournament on Oct. 26 at The Home Course in DuPont. The top six at bi-district move on to state.
