PORTLAND — Police say a Portland man has died after his SUV crashed in a high-speed wreck near Willamina.

The Oregonian reports 47-year-old Bradley Gene Jones was pronounced dead at the scene of the Sunday night crash.

State police say Jones had been heading east when his Chevy Suburban veered off the road at the Oregon 18B off-ramp. The vehicle came back onto the Yamhill River Road off-ramp before leaving the highway again and slamming into a utility pole and large tree. The vehicle eventually came to rest down a steep embankment near the Yamhill River.

Troopers say Jones had been traveling at a high rate of speed and wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

It isn’t clear whether alcohol played a factor in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
