The Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington is working with the University of Washington to implement the Northwest Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Center.

Through the partnership, primary care providers and trainees, caregivers, family members and patients can receive specialized training about health care for older adults and services available in community.

The intent of the center is to equip health care professionals to care for the region’s aging population and ensure that individuals have access to needed resources to stay healthy and avoid hospital admissions.

The UW Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine received a three-year, $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish the new center, which will serve people in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho.
