A search for a missing Kentucky man in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest entered its third day Friday, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Glenn “Austin” Oldfield, 39, of Louisville, Ky., was set to spend two weeks in Southwest Washington camping and last had text communication with his girlfriend on Sept. 17, according to the sheriff’s office.

Oldfield was last spotted on Sept. 19 when two hunters saw him near Lone Butte, about 31 miles north of Carson, deputies said. Oldfield told the hunters he was from Kentucky and was lost, but when they offered to show Oldfield the road, he turned and ran the other way, according to the sheriff’s office.

About six searchers and two dog teams scoured for Oldfield on Wednesday, focusing in the area where his car and campsite were located, officials reported. The search continued on Thursday, with 14 volunteers, and Friday with 15 ground searchers.

In the event that Oldfield is not located, the search effort will continue Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information about Oldfield’s whereabouts is asked to call the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office at 509-427-9490.
