DETROIT — Detroit’s mayor says he expects two emergency medical technicians who were seriously injured in what he called a “heartbreaking” stabbing attack to pull through.
Mayor Mike Duggan identified the EMTs as Kelly Adams and Alfredo Rojas. They were attacked by a man while treating a woman for an injured ankle on a Detroit street early Tuesday.
Duggan says Adams probably saved Rojas’ life by intervening during the attack. They have wounds on their faces and hands.
Interim Fire Commissioner Eric Jones described the injuries as “horrific” and says Adams and Rojas were “within inches of dying.”
Police are searching for the attacker. Jones says the man seemed agitated for some reason and the EMTs told him to step back and calm down before he attacked.
