Prep roundup: Ridgefield runners capture 2A GSHL titles

Silas Griffith of Ridgefield won the 2A Greater St. Helens League cross country championship at Hudson’s Bay by 34 seconds, posting a time of 15:50 and leading the Spudders to a team victory.

Ridgefield outscored Washougal 35-55 for the team title. Washougal was paced by Bailey Duncan (third, 16:37) and Aiden Pullen (fourth, 16:41). Ridgefield’s Kyle Radosevich was fifth (16:46).

Mark Morris’ Isabel Buckingham won the girls race in 19:47 as the Ridgefield completed a team sweep with the Spudder girls outdistancing Hockinson 41-86.

Hannah Swigert of Washougal was second in 19:36, followed by Woodland’s Natalie Biddix (19:34), Ridgefield’s Lexie Rutherford (19:47) and Woodland’s McKenna Flanagan (20:28).

Stars of the day

• Kaylin Sperley, Prairie girls soccer, assisted on both goals as the Falcons beat Columbia River to earn a split of the season season series and a first-place tie with the Chieftains in the 3A GSHL.

• Evi Wilson, Columbia River volleyball, had 2 aces, 19 kills, 3 blocks, 2 assists, 18 digs in the Chieftans’ four-set win over Prairie.

• Maddie Veltkamp, King’s Way Christian girls soccer, scored two goals and assisted on two as the Knights kept hold of first place in the Trico League with a win over Stevenson.

• Taryn Ries and Erin Siegel, Ridgefield girls soccer, combined the goal-assist on the first two scores in a 3-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.

• Dolly Suarez, Evergreen girls soccer, broke the scoreless tie with a second-half goal in the 1-0 win over Heritage.

• Mackenzie Haverlack, La Center girls soccer, scored the game’s only goal in the first half as the Wildcats knocked off Seton Catholic 1-0.

• Taylor Erickson, Hockinson volleyball, had 17 kills and 13 digs in the Hawks’ four-set win over Woodland.
