RAINIER, Ore. — A commercial breeder in Rainier who owned more than 140 animals has been fined $172,000 for animal neglect.
KGW-TV reports that Catherine Setere was convicted last week on 43 counts of felony animal neglect. The Oregon Humane Society had worked in conjunction with Columbia County authorities and Rainier police in 2013 to rescue 118 dogs, 21 horses and a cat from Setere’s property.
On top of the fine, a judge on Thursday also prohibited Setere from owning animals of any kind for a three-year period. She has also been banned from owning domestic animals and horses for five years.
The Humane Society has taken ownership of nearly all the rescued animals, which have been put up for adoption.
