For all Logan Black and his teammates accomplished in just the span of about two hours, he could only shrug his shoulders and describe it as “a perfect night.”

The senior two-way lineman, crowned Ridgefield’s homecoming king at halftime, had a key sack in helping his defense pitch a 20-0 shutout of Mark Morris, as the Spudders earned a home playoff birth in the process.

Led by the impressive play of defensive back Tanner Vaillencourt (two interceptions), Mark Morris managed to keep this 2A GSHL battle to just a one score difference heading into halftime.

But when the Monarchs offense drove deep into Spudders territory to open the second half, it was Black who chased and brought down a scrambling Will Burghardt on third down, helping to preserve the shutout.

Tommy Herz finished with 147 yards rushing and a touchdown for the Spudders, including a 62-yard run on the opening drive, which set up the team’s first quarter score.
