Battle Ground — Tukes Valley Middle School sixth-graders recently visited the Mount St. Helens National Monument in Silver Lake, where they learned about the different types of volcanoes and why they erupt. The students watched a video about the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption, walked through a scale-model of the volcano and saw a magma chamber. They also walked a trail adjacent to Silver Lake and learned about how debris and sediment impacted the marshy area.
