The Clark College women’s cross country team won the Southern Regional team title on Friday, posting 33 points to edge out Lane with 35.

Lane went 1-2 on the 5K course at Clackamas Community College with Danielle Girard winning in 19 minutes, 17 seconds.

Clark’s Melissa Starr was third overall in 19:25. Tresa Marsh was fifth (19:48, and Saide Dalgleish and Alanni Wingert were seventh and eighth.

The Clark men were fourth out of seven teams with 82 points. Treasure Valley won with 52.

Clark’s James Breen, a Heritage grad, was second overall in 25:39 on the 8K course, just edged out by Jackson Baker of Clackamas (25:38). Clark’s Sam Garvin, a Mountain View grad, was fifth (25:56).

The final meet of the season is the NWAC Championships, set for Nov. 14 at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground.

A win over the Lane Titans on Saturday will earn the Clark College women’s soccer team the first division title in program history.

“If we win, it won’t just mean a lot to the team. I think it would mean a lot to our coaches and to our whole school,” co-captain Brenna Bogle said.

Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Clark’s Kim Christensen Field. Earlier this month, the Penguins beat the Titans in Eugene thanks to second-half goals from Naomi McDonald and Ellie Quercia.

Clark has nine wins and two ties in Northwest Athletic Conference South Division play. The Penguins are one point behind Lane (10-1-0) entering this final game of the regular season, so they need a win to earn the division championship. Clark has clinched a spot in the NWAC playoffs.

“The first game was a very challenging game. I think this game is going to be even harder,” co-captain Brooke Kates said.

Kates said the Penguins (12-1-3 overall) have succeeded this season because they have strong players throughout the lineup and strong players who come off the bench.
