Five organizations involved in youth employment and job training have received an Excellence in Collaboration Award from the Nonprofit Network Southwest Washington.

The award, presented Tuesday at the Heathman Lodge, went to the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, Partners in Careers, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity, WorkSource and Vancouver Housing Authority. The organizations were recognized for their partnership on YouthBuild Vancouver, a job training and education program for at-risk teens and young adults ages 16 to 24.

The program is offered to low-income young people who have not completed high school. Participants can obtain their GED or high school diploma and earn construction certifications through the program while learning work skills. The program culminates in construction of two energy-efficient homes for low-income families enrolled with Evergreen Habitat for Humanity.
