Letter: Gracias for the contributions

In listening to all the rhetoric from presidential candidate Donald Trump, I must say I’m disgusted by his racism and embarrassed by his ignorant supporters. He speaks nonsense and the mindless clap and bark like trained seals.

In my capacity as an elementary school teacher, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Hispanic families over the past 25 years. The parents show up for the parent teacher conferences, even if they have to take a bus. They want their children to succeed. Very few are criminals. The students are hard-working, sincere, well-groomed, helpful and bright. The families are generous and kind. They respect their elders. Of course, they are not perfect. Are you?

We need to face the fact that “anchor” children and these immigrant families are the backbone of our economy and will be supporting our retirement benefits. They need the best education possible and to be recognized for their work ethic and rich culture. Thank you to every immigrant sweating in our homes, on our lawns, in the fields, and in our orchards.

Thanks to them we have our pretty yards, clean houses, wine, blueberries, apples, and vegetables. Trump wouldn’t last two hours in the fields.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
