Regarding the Sept. 3 story “County weighs C-Tran plan,” Councilor David Madore’s plan to have C-Tran’s taxing boundary cover the whole county will not strengthen C-Tran or extend service to people that don’t already have it. Rather, people who don’t have service now will vote against increasing revenues to keep up with inflation and service will likely be cut back. The taxing boundaries we have now were established to avoid having to cut out weekend and evening service.
I moved to Vancouver in 1977 and have watched C-Tran struggle to survive since it was first established in 1980. Madore is not a real friend of transit. He became a county councilor to sink light rail and has even stated in the past that he isn’t really interested in C-Tran. Nothing he has said before shows any real interest in expanding C- Tran to serve people that aren’t served now.
Keep the boundaries the way they are so those of us who use C-Tran have control over its future. Don’t give control to those who don’t use it and won’t support it.
