Woodland — The city of Woodland Employee of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards were handed out at a picnic on Sept. 2.

Dennis Ripp earned Employee of the Year for his 35 years of service in public works, and Brad Hammons was named Volunteer of the Year for his 10 years on the Parks and Recreation board, of which he is currently chair.

The winners were nominated by their peers. According to a release from the city, Ripp was nominated because he “treats everyone with dignity and respect, is truthful and honest and always tries to put others first.” Hammons was described as “someone who takes his position seriously, rarely misses a meeting, is courteous, ethical and confidential, is someone who listens to others’ ideas and communicates well with other park members” in the same release.
