Volunteers are needed Saturday to clear trails, pick up trash and do other maintenance around Coldwater Lake, Johnston Ridge Observatory and Hummocks trail on the north side of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Activities begin at 10 a.m. at the Coldwater Lake parking lot, 45 miles east of Interstate 5 on state Highway 504.

The clean-up is one of two National Public Lands Day volunteer events on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Workers will earn a coupon for a fee-free day of their choosing at any participating federal recreation site, regardless of agency.

For more information, call 360-449-7800.

The other Gifford Pinchot event will be clean-up in the Skate Creek corridor along road No. 52 in the Cowlitz Valley District. That event begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Packwood Fire Hall, 12953 U.S. Highway 12 in Packwood.
