The Ridgefield baseball team got a hand from Mother Nature in its 8-5 win over Mark Morris on Wednesday.

Sure, the Spudders might have rallied in the bottom of the seventh after the Monarchs took a lead in the top of the inning, but lightning in the area created two delays and ultimately ended the game with two outs in the top of the seventh inning.

Class 2A Greater St. Helens League rules say the game reverts back to the last completed full inning, which meant an 8-5 win for Ridgefield.

The Spudders scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take its 8-5 lead.

Spencer Andersen and Michael Martin each had two hits and two RBI for Ridgefield.

The win improved the Spudders to 6-1 in league play. Mark Morris fell to 4-3.

Soccer match shortened — Wednesday’s thunderstorms also shortened a Class 4A boys soccer match at McKenzie Stadium as Camas beat Heritage 2-0.

After a lengthy lightning delay at halftime, the game was called after a second delay 11 minutes into the second half. Under league rules, the match is official since the first half was completed.

The later soccer match scheduled Wednesday at McKenzie Stadium was played, with Union defeating Mountain View 3-0.
