After following the editorial comments and stories about the Vancouver Salary Review Commission, I suggest we, the citizens (and Columbian staff) form a “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff Commission.” This group would meet on a regular basis and review the actions of local government officials, offices, councils and commissions. The mission would be to determine if the final actions are in the best interests of the community. As always, this can be difficult; but, a majority vote would decide the results.
Actions deemed not in “our” best interests would result in that person or group being presented the now famous “Don’t Do Stupid Stuff” mug. A simple gesture, but, the meaning is clear and the presence of a cup in the gathering area may remind the decision-makers to give actions a second thought. Since cups do have a cost, I guess we would have to think about donations or membership dues. Just a thought, but I had to say something to get this off my chest.
