Hudson’s Bay — Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, no stranger to history, recently took a trip back to the summer of 1867 with some vintage “base ball” on July 23.

Volunteers and park staffers teamed to play a game using 1867 rules, replaying a May 11, 1867, game between the Sherman Base Ball Club of Vancouver Barracks, made up of soldiers, and Occidental Base Ball Club of Vancouver. In that game, the soldiers won 45-5.

At the replay, players and fans wore era-appropriate costumes, while the Vancouver Community Concert Band played 19th century patriotic music.
