SAN FRANCISCO — A search effort for a missing hiker in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness southeast of Portland continues as no one has seen the Northern California college student in seven days.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 21-year-old Riley Zickel, who is originally from Sebastopol but is currently a student at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, was last seen July 27 outside the wilderness area. He was supposed to meet friends the next day but never showed up.

A massive search effort reached its fourth day Wednesday and included 60 crew members traveling on foot, horseback and by air.

Search and rescue officials described Zickel as an experienced hiker who had brought enough food and supplies to last him four days in the wilderness.
