As an organizer of a local farmers market, I’m inspired every week by the small farm, food and craft businesses that participate in markets throughout Clark County. These open-air markets provide an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to succeed.
A farmers market doesn’t exist to make money. Most around here are nonprofits. Markets exist so those with the passion to succeed can thrive. The farmer can make a living and build a community, the baker can find his niche with creative and healthfully produced goods, and the artisan who handcrafts art made in her home will gain a sense of financial independence.
These self-employed microbusinesses in Clark County will be future small businesses that help make this county tick, ultimately hiring employees and contributing to local revenue. By offering a place for these businesses to test their products while allowing them to build a customer base and get customer feedback, farmers markets are a critical piece of the local food and economic system.
There is a farmers market somewhere in Clark County every day of the week except Monday.
