MYRTLE POINT, Ore. – The district attorney for Coos County said a Myrtle Point teenager was justified in shooting a man who police say attempted to burglarize his home.

Coos County District Attorney Rob Frasier said the 15-year-old boy feared for his safety when he grabbed a shotgun and shot the suspect in the leg. Police say 33-year-old Kenneth John Edwards entered the teen’s home on Wednesday in Myrtle Point.

Under Oregon law, deadly physical force can be used if someone burglarizes your home and you fear for your life. Edwards is currently being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.
