Letter: Casino will be beneficial

In response to the July 30 story “Cowlitz Tribe wins federal appeal” by reporter Brooks Johnson, I believe that building this casino will help with the expanding population in Southwest Washington.

I have watched the growth first-hand; I lived in Salmon Creek before the Fred Meyer was built, when there was only Sterling Court and Sarah Ridge, as well as some other scattered homes.

I left for about eight years and, when I came back, I noticed a large increase in population and housing development.

This casino will not only help facilitate that growth, but it will bring jobs to the surrounding communities. I work in Woodland and, during the year-and-a-half that I have worked there, it has expanded with a Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr., and a new high school, so apparently Woodland is expecting a rise in population in the next five to ten years. Hopefully this casino in La Center is able to be finished, and I look forward to spending some of my hard-earned money there.
