SEATTLE — Travelers in western Washington are now able to drive along a newly constructed avalanche bridge in Snoqualmie Pass.
State transportation officials opened up the new eastbound bridge, which stretches along 15 miles of Interstate 90, on Tuesday.
Two-way traffic has been moved to the new roadway as crews begin construction of a second avalanche bridge right next to it.
Officials say the new project will allow avalanches to flow safely under traffic, reducing the number of avalanche-related closures on the interstate.
