A pair of Gresham residents are accused of attempted murder and other charges after police said a Jeep ran over a man after a fight.

Officers responded to reports of a physical altercation about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday to the 7-Eleven at 18735 E. Burnside St. As they investigated, they found a critically injured man laying on the ground east of Southeast 188th Avenue just north of the store, police said in a news release.

Police said the unidentified victim appeared to have been run over by a car on the sidewalk. Officers believed the driver was the same man the victim fought moments earlier, according to the news release.

Officers broadcast descriptions of the suspects and later pulled over a red 1991 Jeep Wrangler driven by Russell Courtier, 38, with passenger Colleen Hunt, 35. The pair didn’t appear to know the victim.

Detectives are working to determine what caused the earlier fight.

Police said both Courtier and Hunt were arrested on accusations of attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Hunt was booked into a Multnomah County jail with a bail that totals $555,000, according to the Sheriff’s Office website.

Courtier was detained and questioned by investigators, and he will be booked into a Multnomah County later Thursday morning, said Officer Malaka Kerbs.
