EPHRATA — Health officials have confirmed the first case of Zika virus in Grant County.
The Tri-City Herald reported that it’s the 22nd confirmed case in Washington.
The most recent infection was in a resident who was likely exposed while traveling in Mexico. The unidentified patient was not hospitalized and has recovered from the illness.
All of the cases diagnosed in Washington have been associated with travel to countries where mosquitoes are known to carry the virus.
Officials say the Grant County case poses no risk to the public. Zika is transmitted by mosquito bites, and the strain of mosquitoes that carry the virus does not live in the Northwest.
