Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on these and other opportunities, call 360-735-3683.

• Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington is accepting applications for ombudsman training in September. These volunteers advocate for the rights of people in long-term care facilities.

• Bloodworks Northwest is looking for donor monitors to keep a close eye on donors after they donate to make sure they feel well before leaving, and to serve refreshments. Help is also needed with registration, transporting donations, calling volunteers, and as ambassadors.

• VA Medical Center needs volunteers to act as shuttle drivers and to visit with patients in the Community Living Center.

• Vancouver Housing Authority seeks volunteer mentors to help low-income residents attain their GED certificates through online applications.

• Volunteer Connections seeks pen pals and pen pal coordinators for this school year. Pen pals exchange letters once a month with elementary students and attend an end-of-year party. Coordinators collect, track and deliver letters, communicate with teachers, enter volunteer hours into the reporting website, coordinate the end-of-year party, and assist the program manager.
