LEAVENWORTH — A 68-year-old Bremerton man has died after his raft overturned in the Wenatchee River west of Leavenworth over the weekend.

The Chelan County Sheriff says Charles Beedle Sr. and his daughter-in-law were floating in the river Saturday night when the two hit dangerous, fast-moving water in the Tumwater Canyon area. Their small raft overturned and they were swept some distance through rough water and boulders.

The woman managed to hold onto a rock until she was rescued.

Two other family members, including a 12-year-old boy, were part of the group but managed to get to safety.

Crews looked for Beedle Saturday, but suspended the search at midnight. A family member found his body when the search resumed Sunday.

The sheriff’s office says none of the four were wearing floatation devices.
