Letter: Time to embrace metric system

By Dale Madson, VANCOUVER
Published: August 23, 2016, 6:00am

I was very happy to read Opinion Editor Greg Jayne’s Aug. 21 column, “Time for America to measure up with rest of the world,” about conversion to the metric system. When the United States made its first (and feeble) effort to do this there was not enough effort put behind it.

The United Kingdom (the home of the monstrous English measurement “system”) and all other members of the Commonwealth have made the conversion, so why shouldn’t we?

The alcohol industry did it in this country. So far as I know, it has suffered no ill effect.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
