PENDLETON — A 19-year-old Washington man has been sentenced to 10 years for a gunfight with police in Milton-Freewater, a small city on the Oregon-Washington border.

The East Oregonian reports that Robert Gage Sregzinski pleaded guilty Monday to charges of attempted aggravated murder, unlawful use of a weapon and menacing in connection to an April 28 gunfight. He admitted in court documents to firing a short-barreled shotgun at an officer with the intent of killing him.

Sregzinski was arrested after trying to flee from Milton-Freewater police after a traffic stop in April. He fired at officers during a chase through the town then got out of his vehicle and continued to shoot.

Sregzinski has been identified as a suspect in a Walla Wall homicide investigation.
