Letter: State fails on Highway 502

We have waited for state Highway 502 to be completed for years. After the beautiful paving was completed, the state hired another contractor to chip seal the brand new asphalt. I contacted the state and asked why they were putting that inferior product on the brand new asphalt and was told that the paving contractor had a few problems with the mix which left voids in the road. I contacted the paving contractor and asked what went wrong and was told the voids were miniscule and were not the problem the state alleged.

This is our taxpayer money being spent on an inferior surface, and someone needs to step up and acknowledge responsibility. If the state blames the contractor, the contractor should have been made to tear up the inferior product and pave anew.

What a waste of our money. Who is going to pay for all the windshields that will be broken, not to mention the chips in expensive paint jobs?

I encourage everyone to call the WSDOT and register a complaint.
