Vancouver’s brew scene is growing, with local bars and brew pubs featuring a variety of beer to rival Portland’s already-thriving market.

This week’s Clark Talks, The Columbian’s podcast, taps into what local breweries are creating.

In Part 1 of a two-episode series, reporters Dameon Pesanti and Katie Gillespie sit down with Loowitt Brewing Company brewer Matt Freeland to talk about how to taste beer.

Freeland, one of the brains behind Vancouver staple Shadow Ninja IPA, describes how to smell, taste and enjoy a pint — or a flight — of beer.

Clark Talks features the stories and views behind the news. New issues are released Wednesday evenings, and can be found on The Columbian’s homepage on Thursdays, as well as on Soundcloud, or subscribe for free weekly downloads on iTunes or Stitcher. Episodes are free to listen and download to your computer or mobile device.
