After reading the Nov. 27 story “5 major issues Clark County faces in 2017” by Columbian reporter Jake Thomas, about Clark County’s challenge to accommodate the influx and demand of people moving here, I have a question about Jamie Howsley’s comment that more housing needs to be built to keep up with demand. Really? Does the county really need to keep up with demand? We can’t just say that we are developed enough?
Carol Levanen states that “People are moving into Clark County because of the quality of life we have now.” We have lived here for 20-plus years and the “quality” has decreased significantly in that time, and is going nowhere but down in the future. Traffic is horrible and every corner has development going on, it seems.
To answer Heidi Owens’ question, “What is the community Clark County wants to be?” I vote to have the county keep some of its agricultural heritage. We don’t need to pave over the county to put up a parking lot!
