A kitchen fire in Vancouver’s Riveridge neighborhood caused nearly $27,000 in estimated damage.

Firefighters were called to 11907 S.E. McGillivray Blvd. at about 7:15 a.m. Monday.

Crews extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, keeping it from extending into other rooms of the house.

The estimated damage, however, was $26,909 to the 2,300-square foot home, Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

The blaze was caused by unattended cooking with the occupant using the microwave, she said.
