Spencer Long scored 10 of his game-high 23 points in the second quarter to rally Columbia River to a 52-47 win over Skyview in a non-league boys basketball game Saturday.
The win was David Long’s 400th as Columbia River’s coach.
Skyview jumped out to an 18-12 lead after one quarter before River cut it to 29-27 at half.
“Our defensive effort got more intense in the second half, and our rebounding was really the key,” David Long said. “We outrebounded them 30-22, and they’re an athletic team.”
Spencer Long hit two free throws with 27 seconds left to give River a 51-47 lead and seal the win.
Nathan Hockhalter had seven points and six rebounds for the Chieftains. Jacob Hjort added 12 points. Taylor Harbertson had 14 points and Alex Schumacher had 12 for Skyview.
“It was a good atmosphere,” David Long said. “We had a lot of people in the gym for a Saturday during winter break with a screwy start time. But it’s always a full house for River-Skyview.”
