The Washington Department of Ecology said Monday that it issued a total of $341,015.41 in penalties, in increments of $1,000 or more, from October through December. Four Clark County companies were among those fined.

Local companies fined by the state agency were: Sharp Electronics, Camas, fined $1,000 on Oct. 15 for failing to correctly monitor wastewater discharges; Georgia Pacific Consumer Products, Camas, fined $2,500 on Dec. 18 due to emissions that “exceeded parameters for particulate and hazardous air pollutants”; JT Marine Inc. , Vancouver, fined $3,161.44 on Oct. 15 for failure to monitor stormwater discharges at its dry dock; and Pacific Coast Shredding, Vancouver, fined $3,297.32 on Oct. 5 for failing to monitor treated stormwater as required by permit.

Penalties are issued in cases where noncompliance continues after Ecology has provided technical assistance or warnings, or for particularly serious violations, the agency said. Funds collected go to the state’s general fund or to dedicated pollution-prevention programs.
