Letter: Fed up with promises of ACA

Someone must challenge the slew of mean-spirited letters defending Obamacare. All rely on the logic of “Republicans like Jaime Herrera Beutler are rich jerks who hate poor people, so keep Obamacare.”

The problem is that the law was sold as making health insurance cheaper, while allowing people with health insurance to keep their doctors and their plans — and each of those promises was broken. There was no need to punish the average family just to provide coverage to low-income people. Also, the law perversely discourages small businesses from growing and includes hundreds of millions in new taxes — not great for an area with some of the worst unemployment in the country.

When it comes to health care, they could have done so much better. Many Republicans like Herrera Beutler have consistently pushed for new solutions, and those of us fed up with the problems caused by Obamacare should be listening.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
