Haggen stores auction delayed until Thursday

WENATCHEE — The auction to decide the fate of 33 Haggen stores in Washington and Oregon has been postponed until Thursday. The company delayed the auction to give interested parties more time to refine bids.

Bellingham-based Haggen was set to auction off its “core stores” Friday to soothe debtors’ demands and perhaps save a piece of what was once a solid regional supermarket chain. Haggen declared bankruptcy in September after the failure of an ambitious expansion plan that saw the company grow eight-fold and then collapse.
