PORTLAND — Air tests at five Portland schools have found no traces of carcinogens that have been found in other neighborhoods of the city.
KGW-TV reports that Portland Public School officials announced that the tests on Feb. 5 found no detectable results of arsenic or cadmium.
The announcement comes after the Department of Environmental Quality found a glass manufacturer in southeast Portland was releasing the toxins at levels well above state safety goals.
The glass manufacturer has voluntarily stopped using the chemicals.
Gov. Kate Brown released a statement Tuesday saying she is very concerned about the safety of Portland residents in light of the air quality tests and that she has directed DEQ officials to provide a plan for how they will respond.
