Collin Prangley came off the bench to provide a spark early as the Washougal boys basketball team held off W.F. West of Chehalis 46-41 to win a 2A district play-in game in Chehalis.

The win was the Panthers’ third in its past four games after snapping a five-game losing streak. Washougal will open the 2A district tournament at Mark Morris on Saturday.

“We went through a tough stretch there, but these guys found a way to get it don,” Washougal coach Malcolm Estes said. “We’ve earned the right to play two more games, at least, and just happy for the chance.”

After falling behind 9-3, Prangley came off the bench to score the next eight points for Washougal, which took a 11-10 lead after the first quarter.

Daniel Davis and Brody Oberg hit big shots in the third quarter, and Curtis Crosby buried a key 3-pointer in the fourth. The Panthers then sealed the win by hitting 8 of 9 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Estes said Adam Schwarz had a big game for W.F. West, finishing with 21 points.

“We worked hard on wearing him down, and the shut down everyone else,” Estes said.

Prangley finished with 18 points. Oberg added nine and Davis eight points.

“In our league, anybody could beat anybody,” Estes said. “We never really got blown out by anybody, except Mark Morris. Most nights, you didn’t know if you were going to win or lose. And think that has prepared us for district.”
