Kate Kraft scored 12 points, including a big 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to help the Chieftains seal a first-round win in the 3A bi-district tournament.

Columbia River advances to play Auburn Riverside in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.

“This was the first close game we’ve won this year,” Columbia River coach Carl Click said. “All of our other wins were by double digits. It was encouraging to see them come through when it mattered and win on the road.”

River took the lead at the end of the first quarter 14-10 and never trailed after that. The Chieftains pushed the lead to as many as 10 in the second quarter before Central Kitsap closed the gap.

Kraft’s 3-pointer, her third of the game, gave River a 46-36 lead midway in the fourth quarter. Katie Kolbe hit a jumper later to help seal the win.

Emma Fisk had 11 points and 12 rebounds, Teaghan Cowles had 10 points and four steals. Kraft added three steals.
