A Washougal man pleaded guilty in a hit-and-run case that resulted in injuries to a Clark County sheriff’s deputy.

Isaiah Richey, 24, who also goes by the name Isaiah Oviatt, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of attempted second-degree assault. He will be sentenced later.

On Oct. 5, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the brush at 1105 N.E. Blair Road near Washougal.

They arrived to find a green Subaru parked in an overgrown driveway, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Deputies approached the vehicle, which was occupied by Richey and David J. Stitzel, 26, a transient, according to court records.

The two initially cooperated, showing their identification before Richey, the driver, grabbed the keys and started the car, according to the information filed in court.

He dropped the transmission into reverse, causing the open passenger door to hit a deputy and knock him into blackberry bushes, the affidavit said. A sergeant at the scene narrowly missed being hit. No one was seriously injured.

Stitzel previously pleaded guilty to possession of heroin, second-degree burglary, third-degree theft and third-degree assault and was sentenced to 17 months in prison.
