Letter: Resist housing the homeless

By Joe Blatner Sr., Vancouver
Published: February 13, 2016, 6:00am

A Feb. 4 story reported “Chronically homeless get a home: Newly built Lincoln Place to soon house 30 tenants.” Though I realize it sounds good and fuzzy, but what message does it send to those trying to make it and can’t quite get over the hump? We penalize these people by taking away benefits because they’re making a little over the poverty line.

Though nobody wishes ill will on the homeless, a lot of them don’t want any help, and as in Portland, how many more will come to Clark County because of the freebies?

By the way, regarding the lot next door to the building and those wondering what to use it for; how about growing pot, since this is what the Vancouver Housing Authority must be on.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
