A Portland man appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court following a law enforcement sting in which he allegedly contacted underage girls for sex.

Jeffrey P. Snyder, 57, faces an allegation of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.

Between November and February, Snyder allegedly communicated on Facebook with a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. Police also learned he had been communicating with another person in Ohio who he thought was a 13-year-old girl. However, in both cases, the girls were actually undercover police officers, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court. Snyder initiated chats that were sexual in nature, the affidavit said.

He made plans to meet with one of the girls, but did not follow through with it. Snyder also sent suggestive and sexually explicit photos, court records said.

During his hearing, Judge Gregory Gonzales appointed Vancouver attorney Gerry Wear to represent Snyder and set bail at $40,000.

Snyder will be arraigned March 2.
