Comments sought on hunting regulations

OLYMPIA — Written comments will be accepted through Feb. 25 on proposed recommendations for the 2016-2017 hunting seasons in Washington. The proposals and comment forms are online at http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/regulations/hunting_regulations.

Most of the proposals address changes in special permit levels that were not included in the broader 2015-17 hunting plan approved by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission last year, said Mick Cope, department game manager. Two proposals included in the three-year plan are available again for public comment. One relates to cougar-hunting seasons and the other to the use of bait when hunting deer and elk.

Applications due for spring bear hunt

OLYMPIA — Sportsmen must purchase and submit applications by Feb. 29 if they want a spring black bear hunting in Washington.

A drawing will be held in mid-March for 345 permits in Western Washington and 509 permits in Eastern Washington. Permit winners will receive notification in the mail no later than March 31. Applicants also may check the results of the drawing at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting.

To apply, hunters must buy a special permit application and a 2016 hunting license that includes bear as a species option. Hunting licenses, bear transport tags and bear permit applications may be bought online at http://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov or at 866-246-9453.
