Battle Ground — The city of Battle Ground has been without a city manager since December, when John Williams left for a position in Moses Lake, but the city council moved closer to filling the job on Wednesday by naming six finalists.

The finalists are Matthew Brown, senior management analyst for Forest Grove, Ore.; Daniel Chandler, assistant county administrator/strategic policy administrator for Clackamas County, Ore.; Robert Maul, planning manager for Camas; Chris Sutter, assistant chief of police for Vancouver; Jeff Swanson, director of economic development for Clark County; and Craig Ward, city manager of Troutdale, Ore.

Each of the finalists will be interviewed by panels made up of council members, city staff and community members. The public can meet and speak with the finalists at an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 3 at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground.

The manager is appointed by the council and is responsible for execution of the council’s legislative polices and budget goals, appointment and direction of department directors, and daily operations of the city.
