Letter: Allow representation to participate

By U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, Washington, D.C.
Published: February 22, 2016, 6:00am

A large number of Clark County voters felt excluded from the planning and development of the Columbia River Crossing. They vehemently opposed the project, which led to its downfall. Rather than attempt to work with those voters and bring them into the fold as active participants, a Feb. 16 Columbian editorial, “Make bridge talks priority,” calls to once again marginalize them by excluding one of their elected representatives, state Rep. Liz Pike, R-Camas, from the process.

As philosopher and author George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
