TACOMA — A jury in Tacoma has convicted a 52-year-old man of murdering a woman in 1993.

Pierce County prosecutors say James Edward Mitchell was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday in the fatal stabbing of Linda Robinson.

In February 1993, prosecutors say Robinson’s young niece knocked on a neighbor’s door in Spanaway and said her aunt was dead.

Robinson was found on the kitchen floor, stabbed 10 times. Detectives were not able to identify any suspects and the case was suspended.

Detectives reopened the investigation in 2013, sending blood collected from the incident to a crime lab for analysis. The lab developed a DNA profile which identified Mitchell.

Prosecutors say the motive for the killing remains unclear but that Mitchell lived across the street.

Mitchell will be sentenced in March.
